Post Study time? And tips? New to the IT world.
Hello everyone!

I recently found out about certifications and the big impact they have on you getting a job, I feel a little silly admitting that though. I have been studying for about 1 month now to get A+ certified. But I am very concerned on how much time I should spend studying. I plan to take it before I graduate my senior year of high school. (This school year) I've spent $50 on a big book with loads of information that also contained some practice exams on a disc. I've been around computers most of my life, and I've been taking them apart since I was 13. I have experience doing repair and maintenance for friend's and family, and overclocking is a hobby I spend a lot of time on. (Would spend more time if I had the money to constantly buy new parts.) I seem to know about half of what I've read so far in my book, but everything I read about A+ seems to be mixed.
"Oh it's so easy!"
"Failed it twice!"
I just found out about this site today and have started watching the videos to further help my studies, But I am very worried about failing this test considering the cost of it, and the lack of income on my part.
Does anyone have any test taking tips for this either? What to expect? I don't know anyone personally that's even interested in technology like myself, let alone have taken the A+ exam.

Sorry about all the text, and thank you to anyone who reads and replies.

Extra concern: I am also getting told on another forum to just go to technical school and do certifications instead of paying 70k ~ 100k for a 4 year degree in computer science. (Prices of the local schools in my area) It defiantly would be cheaper to do what they suggested, but is it the best choice? I really would like to be good at my job and actually get hired.

Hi,

This may have been posted along time ago.

I'm going to post this for those that maybe wondering or are in similar circumstances..

I would like to say

A. Technical School is better, you skip the outrageous fees and debts. Yes, you'll still have to pay in the end. But it's worth it if you take it serious!

B. Yes,Computer Science is an amazing thing to have degree wise, but having experience plus certifications is basically the same thing.

C. I graduated from a trade school in Los Angeles and will tell you that my certification is worth more then what I paid to go to that school. The price of my full tuition was 12,500. My A+ certification cost me 500. So you do the math on what makes more sense, cuz I learned more from a book then a classroom. Any job you get you will learn "on the fly" there.

My suggestion, start a wiki for yourself to keep data stored and just research and research. Offer free pc help and have some confidence in your ability. I used to be just like you,i got a bunch of tech type jobs. I've barely been in IT for a year.

Hope that helps, start with your journey toward A+ certification,it's the hardest and greatest step I think.

Kent C.
