Post Best books??
Hello....I am doing self study for the A+ exams...I have watched some of the videos which I have found very informative. I am looking into getting some other complementary study materials via books or ebooks, etc... I have begun reading the Mike Myers A+ All in One book. I seems to get into details about the subject matter that I'm not sure if they are that necessary. ie...talking about the registers and every other type of logic inside CPU's an so forth. Is it a good idea to go into such depth of the information as he presents it, or are some of the other courses, ie...GPS learning good enough. I want to really learn and understand the subject matter, but is it really necessary to really know the information at the most base level???? Don't get me wrong, I want to know the information, and not to just to pass a test.
I'd appreciate any comments.

I'm reading Mike's book too... just starting chapter 22! It's a good book, and others have said it served them well in passing the exams. Along with his book I am watching the Professor's videos. But for good measure and considering it's going to be a month or better before I test, I'm also reading David L. Prowse's Exam Cram. --I think that should about do it. LoL!

If you remember back to the beginning of Mike's book he talks about the chapters being devided into 3 groups. Historical/Conceptual, Essentials, and Practical. You can skip the Historical/Conceptual sections if you are pressed for time or simply want to focus on the nuts n bolts of getting through the exams.

Mike Meyers A+, that was such a great book, I actually gave mine to a fellow classmate to help him, which I know was essential.

I used that book daily at the pc shop I worked at also.

*waiting for the updated version to buy and read*

The County library system here has a subscription with Safari Online Books. I'm able to read FOR FREE a number of A+ books that have been published fairly recently. Lots of IT books there for many other certificates -- not just the A+. Check if your library has a similar arrangement. You may end up buying a book or two that you find really helpful in your studies.

I recently passed both A+ exams. The CompTIA A+ Cert Guide (2nd edition) by Mark Soper became the book I used for my independent study. I admit to liking Meyer's writing style, but in the end I found Soper book having the depth and coverage that I preferred. If the A+ material is mostly new to you, I suppose Meyer's writing style might be more enjoyable to you. To each his own ...
