How can i check if i've an unused memory slot available in a laptop without opening it up?

Download cpu-Z and check the SPD tab.

There are mostly 2 memory slots for laptops. What you can do is to open the memory section at the back to see if there is one available OR you can check the documentation that came with the laptop OR Go online to the manufacturer's site to find the exact type of your laptop for specifications OR Go to the site or store you bought it for some info or documentation.

If you own a Dell Lappy, please do not attempt to open it up if under warrenty. You will void it. Just mentioning this as a good majority are Dell that peeps own.

That has to be the best util that I have ever used. Everest and SIS Sandra come close, but this baby is on every desktop of mine.
