Post IT question ;-)
Hello guys  , I know this seems a little off topic but wonder if you guys could help me with a query I have.

I wanted to purchase a wireless adapter for my Pc (window 7 64 bit)to improve the signal which already has a internal wireless adapter, do you have to disable the internal adapter to get the extended wireless adapter running?

Also has anyone bought a wireless repeater/adapter to improve your signal, if so how did it go?

I think you should disable the internal wireless adaptor. Otherwise, you have two wifi LAN adapters and twice the LAN overhead. I presume you do this through the BIOS, right?

I once had poor reception, and tried all sorts of things to remediate the situation: changed to different frequency channels, moved the computer away from the nearby metal filing cabinet, even bought an antenna and extension cable so that I could place it a meter or two away from the PC. All to little avail. Experimenting with a laptop, the signal strength changed a lot depending on where in the room the laptop was placed.

Later, I had to upgrade to a new wifi router using the 802.11n protocol. That improved things considerably. As it would happen, later I had to move everything to the same room containing the router/switch. My PC is now cabled to it, and the only user of wifi is my son's xbox.
