Post Making my server accessible over the internet??
Hi, I have an old computer running windows 7 which I decided to turn into a server to store my files so I can access them from other locations. I am using file-zila which works fine but I can only access it on my local network. I gave the system a public IP and opened both ports 20&21, the router then reset itself and used a private IP again, will I have to use DNS? or can I simply use the IP to access the server? I'm not sure where to go from here, can I use one router to assign both public and private IP's or is this what is causing my problem? I would really appreciate any help as I have only just started network+ and this is a bit complicated to me. Thanks
