Post Career/life direction quandary
Hello, everyone
I would be interested in some feedback regarding the following.
Due to a health issue a couple of years ago and living in
an economically depressed part of the country, i have been
unable to find full time I.T. work. I've done some part time stuff
as well as my own "consulting". I have also put my career on life support
by doing eLearning (thats how i found freeaplus.com, thanx Prof. Messer!)
and doing "labs" using VirtualPC and VirtualBox to keep my skill set alive

I believe that my "head" or theoretical knowledge from my studying is strong, but i feel that my "hands on" experience has suffered due to being unable to find steady full time computer work. My question to any hiring managers/other I.T. pros or anyone for that matter, should i continue to seek out employment in the I.T. field, or should I just call it quits and move on to something else?

btw, I have a degree, 8 years experience, worked in state government, k-12, and private sector business performing desktop/network support.

It must be your area. With that much experience you could easily find something in the Tampa FL area. Where are you located if you don't mind me asking?

I can relate to the poor job market and lack of opportunities. I'm an Iraq war vet and over the past 5 years I have not worked for 2.5 years. I am well on my to getting my associates degree in Computer Systems Engineer Technician. I have my 70-680 cert and did a paid internship (Datacenter/Server2008) for www.mlspin.com. My problem finding a job is I live a solid hour away from a major city. So the best advice I can give you is to move or seek higher education...
