Hey all, I have just passed my A+ (thanks to sybex and more so Professor Messer!!!) I am having some trouble deciding which certification to take next. I am thinking either Network+ or Microsoft 70-680. I have a small sole proprietorship side business doing consulting for repairs, networking, server development and other things of this nature. I prefer business clients rather than the regular home user clients. My main career and source of income has an IT department in which taking the 70-680 would help me get into and that would in turn get me further microsoft certified on my job's dime rather than mine since all they use is microsoft. I am personally not a fan of microsoft, but as a small business owner, most current and future clients want microsoft products since thats all most of them know.
I think taking either one will benefit me in different ways.. taking the microsoft cert will advance my tech career in my main career and taking the network+ i feel would benefit my side business which i would ultimately like to fall back on after retirement. Taking network+ i think would also move me toward taking linux+ which i love dealing with. I like to say that for my sole proprietorship I specialized in windows and linux servers and creating networked environments for small to medium businesses.
What do you all think? Get microsoft certified first or go network+ then linux+ and then tackle microsoft certs?
Which would hold more weight and benefit me for the sole proprietorship do you all think, which is more of my reason for even getting certified to be honest?
Thank you all ahead of time for spending some time helping out a complete stranger!!!
