Hi all,
I downloaded and installed Microsoft\'s newest OS Windows 7 (BETA of course). It has the same feel and look as Vista but with more options. (Installed it on a test machine.) I was surpised that all the computers show up on my network. 1 Vista laptop, 2 XP systems and Windows 7. I think the networking capabilities in Windows 7 is user-ffriendly so far. 7 uses network discovery. Windows 7 doesnt play nice with Mcafee AV tho. I had to use AVG instead. I was wondering if the Professor has had a chance to check the new OS out yet. If so... any thoughts or ideas? Here\'s the link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx |

I like the idea of windows 7 and will be lining up at best buy when microsoft releases it :)
I wanna get the beta but if it doesnt work this is my only comp so... Everyone seems to approve of it, theres some expected beta bugs and compatibility issues which should be ironed out in the next 6-8 months. I cant wait for the tablet version, Im gettin a tablet PC for university :) |

windows 7 supposedly has great Tablet PC capabilities! Also it suports touch screen technology but the downside is it doesnt work if your video card doesnt support it.
the only issues I have had with it is finding a AV program that works, since it is aa Beta version, drivers can be hard to find. My HP printer works well with it but if the computer goes into sleep/hibernate mode the print spooler service stops and I cant use it as a network printer. you also have to download Windows Live Essentials from microsoft to get windows Mail, messenger and etc.... windows 7 Beta didnt include these things. |

Windows 7 from what I have had a chance to play with is Vista except for without the bad memories... yet
Windows Vista I was a beta tester from the beginning I found to be amazing and cool but it was down played by the buisness comunity that is notorious for not upgrading hardware and allot of users as well refused to upgrade hardware and also Manufactures didnt upgrade their drivers to make more money... Windows 7 is the expansion pack for Vista except not going to be 100 dollars or cheaper... Its interesting and some of the features are cool but after the shine and pretty its just an operating system with a new skin... the only question is if that pretty skin is something you need or not... I know in windows in XP i set it to classic mode but in Vista I was hooked on the look of the OS... Really depends but I am not hearing much good besides lighter on start up but slower on games... sadly this is without all of the Security Software in the OS ... so expect it to be much slower upon release... |

I agree that Vista got a bad rap because the hardware/driver support wasnt there. Now 2 yrs later most have caught up. ATI and Nividia have video drivers for 7 already.
UAC is alot better in Windows 7. Microsoft included alot more troubleshooting options in 7. I kinda wish XP had the same :-). I have had Windows 7 since MS released the BETA download and had only driver issues. (I anticipated that) I have installed it on 2 computers. One pc is about 7 yrs old and the other is less then a yr. And I do have to admit that I was surprised that my older system runs 7 like a champ and without the pretty! ( ATI doesnt support thier 9000 series video cards anymore so I had to use a standard VGA driver) XP users will stick to XP because like Vista, Windows 7 needs hardware/software upgrades and that could get expensive! I personally love XP... |

I personally haven\'t tried 7 yet but my friends claim its a faster Vista with fancy touch-screen technology, a new taskbar, and a saner UAC.
I also noticed that ATI just dropped their 9000 series cards. My main box has a Radeon 9600 XT so I\'m pretty much stuck with the old driver. Not to worry, though, I\'ll be building a new Core i7 system soon with probably an Nvidia GeForce 285 or 290 GTX. I would get an ATI Radeon 4870 or 4870 X2 if I went with an Phenom II and an CrossFireX AM3 board. But I hear performance of ATI graphics cards is optimized when using the AMD chipsets but I\'m choosing Intel once again. |

UAC is much saner on windows 7!
sounds like a great pc! I recently built one with a AMD Athlon x64 dual core 5600+ and paired it with a Sapphire (ATI)Radeon 4350 512MB PCIe graphics card and machine runs great! I think Intel and Nividia work really well with each other. you shouldnt have any probs with your build :-) |

My review of Windows 7 Home Premium
I'm currently using Windows 7 Home Premium. It is great. All my hardware is compatible with Windows 7. All my software which I used on a regular basis like Web browsers, antivirus, antispyware, ftp programs, media players, and so on work great in 7. The biggest improvement is boot up speeds, and UAC is not as annoying. Programs are also start up faster then before. I am also seeing less disk thrashing compared to Vista Home Premium. My Ram is not always stuck at 80%-98% like before. Before, I was using Vista IE will use a lot of memory like 400MB after visiting many websites now it only uses 100MB-200MB of RAM. Readyboost also seem to work better in 7 then Vista. It does not cause my hard drive to read and write a lot like vista. My computer only have a 1.8 GHZ intel Core2Dou, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM PC4300, 320 GB SATA2 drive, and Windows 7 does not lag like Vista. I notice now I can open a lot of files and programs without my PC crashing, or lagging. ![]() Programs I have open. Sandboxie Avant Browser moded version of Internet explorer Foobar 2000 audio player Google Chrome Microsoft Word 2007 Firefox 3 Gimp 2.6 Virtual box running Windows XP PRO SP3 inside a window Filezilla TrueCrypt SuperAntispyware Screen hunter 5 Microsoft Security Essentials Windows Aero theme I got Windows 7 upgrade for 39.99 with my Canadian college student discount at http://www.win741.com/ Upgrading was easy. All I had to do was download the .exe Win 7 installer file and agree to the term of service for 7, wait for it to install and type in the serial key for 7. Do a windows update, and I am done. _________________ A+ certified , Studying Network+ PC Help tips Blog | Windows Maintenance Tips | Ubuntu Linux Help | PC Electronics Blog |
