Just completed my Network+ cert and want to get Security+. I understand that the SYO-201 exam will be offered till the end of the year (2011) and that the SYO-301 exam is scheduled to release in May 2011. Does it make sense to wait for the new exam? This would also mean waiting for SYO-301 study materials.. I would really like to start studying shortly and would hate to wait around for study material for the SYO-301 exam..

Your Security+ certification will be good for three years, regardless of the version you take. The 301 exam requirements are a bit more comprehensive than the 201 requirements, so you won't be able to study for the 201 and expect a great score on the 301.

Employers would probably like to see you with the latest certification. If you must sit for your exam soon, then take the 201. If you can wait, the 301 will probably be more marketable.

I agree with Professor. But, if you just got done with Network+ it maybe better to go ahead and take the Security+. I took my Security+ 6 weeks after taking the Network+. And there was alot of bleed over from Network+ to Security+. It maybe easier to do the 201 now and then retake the 301 late next year.

I've not seen an announcement for an SY0-201 to SY0-301 bridge exam, and I'm not sure one would apply for Security+. Do you have a link that we can reference?
