Hi
I've studied all the videos, many times and taken notes etc. However after a couple of Google searches I found a few practise exams. After sitting the exams I scored low as I was asked quite a few questions that where not covered in the videos. Is this because the online practise exams are based upon exams that are a few years behind the current exam? Many Thanks Stuart |

How much experience do you have? I have read that the exams are geared to test the proficiencies of a 6 month tech. So, I would say if you fall short of that experience level then you will need multiple sources of reference to fill the gaps.
Professor Messer recomends using a good book along with his videos to prepare for the tests... Check out this thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3081 I'm hoping my study material is overkill. I want to pass the exams the first time. Plus I want to KNOW the material, not just pass the test. My study material: Professor Messer A+ videos Mike Myers CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Seventh Edition David Prowse CompTIA A+ 220-701 and 220-702 Exam Cram, 5th Edition From what I've read on these message boards, that should be MORE then a winning combination. But the big question is... Are the end of chapter quizzes in these books and on the videos indicative of the actual exam questions? I haven't seen an answer to that question. But I haven't really seen it asked like that either. I don't think anyone is suppose to answer direct questions about the actual exam questions, but many will say this is all good study material so I'm counting on it... |

Thanks for the advice, I feel that I have quite a sound background for the exam, the site that i had problems with was http://www.examcompass.com/index.php/co ... tests.html however since then I have tried the test on http://www.techexams.net/comptia/ for both A+ and Network + and have scored high.
Many Thanks |

Great book is Mike Meyers A+ book, get that and use it along with the Professor Messer vidz..
Those were my main sources, some of those tests are gonna ask you stuff way out there, trust me, you won't see all that and if you score kinda low, that's alright, just research what you miss and came back after a few days and retake the exams, you will start to know the answers. I got to the point where I was scoring high on like every test i was doing or could find. You will want to get to that point before you can be confident you will pass. I did my exam and study course in 3 months, but that was very intense and serious. I'm talking like 5-10 hours a day and all day on the weekends. If you are willing to train, those are my suggestions, I still have to train, just because I got certified doesn't mean much, it's the knowledge you have that is important. Simple Answer. Yes. They ask questions that are in the range of what you will need to know both on the exams and real life. Definitely use those, I did. I would say, outta all the tests I did do, only 1 question appeared on the real 701 exam only. I'll be honest, I felt like I was cheating when i already knew the answer. The rest of the questions, most I had never seen anywhere! Actual practice tests with real questions are called Braindumps and that isn't the way you want your A+ journey to be accomplished if you plan to be in the field which is why one would want the certification in the first place. Kent C. Thanks. Yeah, I'm not looking for actual questions from the exam. I was just curious if the practice questions were similar in difficulty and style. I finished Mike Myers book and the questions were good. Some of the practice questions I'v seen out there from other sources actually have multiple "right" answers, but the author happened to be looking for a specific right answer. Those quizzes are frustrating. Hopefully CompTIA doesn't have too many of those... |

There are two practice tests on CompTIA's website you can try out:
A+ practice tests CompTIA I found the questions very difficult until recently and I'll assume that the actual test will be as hard as these practice questions. I'm going to take the test next week myself. Make sure you print a copy of the exam objectives as well so you aren't going in blind. Thanks for pointing Professor Messer. _________________ A+, working on Network+ |
