You need to upgrade the memory in one of your company’s computers. Which of these would be the best way to start the upgrade process?

A) Find any memory modules that will fit into the motherboard memory slots

B) Run a memory diagnostic on the existing memory modules

C) Determine the motherboard model

D) Delete any temporary files and uninstall unused applications

E) Why aren’t you using this opportunity to ask for a new computer?

The answer: C) Determine the motherboard and/or system model

Memory modules are not all made with the same specifications. Before upgrading a motherboard, you’ll need to determine the exact requirements for RAM, and the best way to determine those requirements is to find out what motherboard or computer system you are using. The computer or motherboard manufacturer will have detailed memory specifications, and many online memory sites can provide a memory reference library for nearly every motherboard known to man.
