My status is unknown

What would you expect to occur if you accidentally forgot to connect the hard drive status wires to your new motherboard installation?

A) The drives would work normally, but you will not see any status lights

B) The other motherboard components will work normally, but the hard drives will not operate

C) The motherboard will not pass POST

D) Only one hard drive will operate properly on this motherboard

E) You’ll need to buy it flowers and talk nice to it

The answer: A) The drives would work normally, but you will not see any status lights

The hard drive status connection on the motherboard is simply to light the LED when hard drive activity occurs. Although the lights are useful to see, they don’t have any operational functionality at all.
