What command line option launches the disk cleanup process?

The hard drive of a client’s computer is almost at 100% capacity. What is the command line option that launches the automated disk cleanup process?

A) ntbackup

B) cleanmgr

C) chkdsk

D) defrag

The answer: B) cleanmgr

The Windows disk cleanup utility quickly identifies sections of files that can be easily deleted without losing information or removing operating system components. Disk usage from downloaded program files, temporary Internet files, recycle bin files, and much more can be removed with just a few mouse clicks.

The incorrect answers:

A) ntbackup
The Windows Backup utility creates copies of your information that can be used if files are inadvertently deleted or destroyed. Since Windows Backup simply makes a copy, there’s no additional disk space available after a backup.

C) chkdsk
The Check Disk utility checks file system and physical disk drive integrity. Check Disk is not designed to free up any hard drive space.

D) defrag
The defragment program moves file fragments into a single contiguous group for faster access. The defragment utility just moves things around, so there’s no opportunity to recover any additional hard drive space.
