What does a parallel port look like?

One of your customers needs to move their old printer from one computer to another, and they tell you that this printer uses a parallel port to interface to the computer. How many pins does the parallel port have on the computer’s motherboard?

A) 9

B) 15

C) 25

D) 36

The answer: C) 25

The parallel port is most commonly seen as a female DB-25 connector. Older devices may also use a 25-pin connector for the serial port, but those are commonly differentiated as male connectors on the back of the computer.
