What does the Windows Firewall do?

The Windows Firewall is an example of a software firewall that runs as part of an operating system. Which of these would NOT be a characteristic of the Windows Firewall?

A) The firewall is stateful

B) The firewall can block traffic based on specific applications

C) The firewall cannot block traffic on wireless networks

D) The firewall can block traffic based on port number

E) The firewall always remembers what you like in your coffee

The answer: C) The firewall cannot block traffic on wireless networks (and E!).

One of the advantages of running the firewall inside of the operating system is that applications are completely visible and network connections are irrelevant. If data enters the OS from any network type, it is subject to filtering by the Windows Firewall.

Unfortunately, the Windows Firewall will always get your coffee order wrong. Let me write that down for you.
