What program can help you troubleshoot startup errors?

During the startup process of Windows XP startup, you are able to login and view the desktop. Immediately after the desktop appears, an error message in a pop-up box appears on the screen. The error message does not seem to reference a specific application and the message simply says “Error found. Application closing.” What built-in Windows feature would easily help troubleshoot this Windows startup problem?

A) Windows Recovery Console

B) Safe Mode

C) The Windows Registry

D) MSCONFIG

The answer: D) MSCONFIG

The Microsoft System Configuration (MSCONFIG) utility can help you manage boot options, Windows services, and the applications that start once you login. Each application can be individually enabled or disabled, which would allow you to progress methodically through the list until your startup error disappears.
