Which one of these is an input device?

A) LCD monitor

B) Scanner

C) Laser printer

D) Plotter

The answer: B) Scanner

When working with computers, it’s important to recognize what devices can get information in and send information out. Some common input devices are keyboards and mice, but it’s also useful to be familiar with others. As an input device, scanners are designed to take printed materials and create digital representations of them.

The incorrect answers:

A) LCD monitor
An LCD monitor displays information from the computer for humans to see, so it clearly qualifies as an output device.

C) Laser printer
Laser printers are also output devices, since their sole purpose is to print information for viewing.

D) Plotter
Plotters are usually only seen in specialized environments such as architectural firms or civil engineering purposes, but they are designed only to output large maps and information to oversized paper.
