Why is memory important in a laser printer?

One of your customers needs to print high-resolution images from their laser printer, but they need a memory upgrade to successfully print their images. Why is memory so important in a laser printer?

A) High-resolution images print faster when more memory is available in the laser printer.

B) The laser printer must build the entire high-resolution image in memory before it can print.

C) The memory of the laser printer is only used to store fonts, not images.

D) The memory in a laser printer should match the amount of memory available on the computers used to create the output.

Answer: B) The laser printer must build the entire high-resolution image in memory before it can print.

Once a laser printer begins to print a page, it can’t stop in the middle and restart. Therefore, it’s important to build the entire page into memory before it starts the printing process. Pages of high-resolution images will use much more memory than pages of text. If you try to print to a laser printer that doesn’t have enough memory, an error message will be displayed on the printer and the output will usually only show a portion of the entire page.

The incorrect answers:
A) High-resolution images print faster when more memory is available in the laser printer.
The CPU of the laser printer and the building of the printed page is unaffected by the amount of memory available in the printer.

C) The memory of the laser printer is only used to store fonts, not high-resolution images.
The memory of a laser printer stores everything before printing, including fonts and images.

D) The memory in a laser printer should match the amount of memory available on the computers used to create the output.
The memory in the computer and the memory of the laser printer are used for two completely different functions, so there is no correlation between the printers and the computers.
